First off we have to say a massive congrats to our very own Tee Circus who will be joining BBC Radio 1Xtra next month to host a weekly show! Sounds of Sumo favourite Tee’s show will be every Tuesday night from 1-2am. To celebrate, he’s given away his track ‘We are Lovers’ for absloutely nothing! Grab it for free underneath.
1Xtra is definitely the station to get your SOS fix, with our bosses Kry Wolf being key contributors to the bi-weekly Food Music Daily Dose section on Mistajam’s show. Listen back to the pair’s hour-long slot from last week here. They have also remixed Australian newcomer Motez’s ‘Call My Name’ for Say Wat Records. Check that one out below.
Two more wicked remixes surfaced this week from label family Squarehead and Jason Burns. Squarehead reworked one-time Sounds of Sumo remixer Viers‘ ‘Your Body’ and Jason has modified ‘Fourzero41′ by Atlantic Conncection. Both are available to stream under this.
Finally, there are a few friends and family of Sounds of Sumo playing at Glastonbury this weekend, so we’ve devised a little timetable for anyone lucky enough to be going of the guys who’ve released music with us.

Bondax – WOW Stage 19:00-20:00
Mosca – The London Underground 0:00-1:30

We kick things off this week with SOS bosses Kry Wolf’s VIP of Shadow Child & Tymer’s ’23′. It will be released on the 23rd of this month alongside another VIP by DJ Zinc via our sister label Food Music. Check it out below.
Next up we bring you the video for Py‘s latest single ‘Polyethers’, forthcoming on Champion Records. It’s just as quirky as the one for our very own ’Black Magic’ and looks like it took ages to make, so have a watch underneath.
Also this week there’s a whole heap of music from Canblaster. In the last few days, he’s given us a collaboration with Sounds of Sumo remixer Sam Tiba, a remix of Todd Edwards & Surkin and an edit of Etienne de Crecy’s ‘Scratched Live’. Find them all after the drop.
Elsewhere Cerebral Vortex, who provided vocals for Wool’s ’Erotic Dancer’ last year on Sounds of Sumo, has teamed up with Microdot, Spoek Mathambo and Maddjazz, who remixed Canblaster for us back in 2011. Hear the finished ‘The Funky Beats’ here:
and finally, massive thanks to B.Traits for spinning our latest release, ‘Psalms’ by Jason Burns’ on Radio 1! We reckon she’s doing a great job filling in for Annie Mac!
Thanks for your support, till next time,
The SoS team.
We kick things off this week with Mak & Pasteman‘s ‘Ones2watch’ mix for Urban Nerds. The pair released their ’Get With the Program’ EP on Sounds of Sumo in 2011 as well as contributing countless remixes to our backcatalogue. More recently, they have released music on Redlight’s vinyl-only Lobster Boy imprint. Check out the mix underneath and click here to read an interview with the boys.
You’re spoilt for mixes this week as Vancouver’s HxdB has also done a wicked 80-minute selection for Bass Coast. Check it out below:
Elsewhere, regular SOS remixer Murlo has been a busy boy. Last Saturday he was on Brackles’ Rinse FM show to provide a 25-minute guestmix, streamable after the drop. He also unveiled two new remixes: one of Spooky’s ‘Coolie Joyride’, the other a collaborative rework with Brenmar of 90′s classic ‘If You Love Me’ by Brownstone. And if all that wasn’t enough, he’s given away his track ‘Icebound’ for free! Grab it here and check the accompanying interview with Thump (part of Vice Magazine) for what else he’s got planned.
And finally, if you happen to be in Seattle this Sunday, it’s going to be an SOS double-header at Barboza with both Jason Burns and Tony Goods supporting Nguzunguzu. Unfortunately it’s a bit far for us to travel, so anyone attending let us know how it goes!
Thanks for reading,
The SoS team.
This week, we are proud to announce our 28th release: Jason Burns‘ ‘Psalms EP’. The American producer has had EPs with Symbols and Brap Dem! Recordings in the past few years and releases his latest 4-track effort with us on June 9th. The title track ‘Psalms’, ‘Look at You’, ‘Wait’ and ‘Just 4 Me’ are accompanied by a trio of impressive remixes from Dirtybird newcomer and SOS’s latest signing Mark Starr, dubstep innovator D1′s house-leaning alias Oscar Luweez and UK funky producer and Flex FM host Jook10. The EP can be purchased via Boomkat, iTunes, Amazon and Digital Tunes amongst others. Check it out underneath and please support us by purchasing it!
Remixer Oscar Luweez has two new EPs in the work. One with our friends over at Concrete Music and another on his own label: ‘Luweez Beats’. Check out previews of them both beneath (including a remix from Bluffin’ re-worker Benton).
Elsewhere Sounds of Sumo favourites Mak & Pasteman have unleashed their adventurous take on the biggest tune of 2013 so far: ‘Jack’ by Breach. Let us know what you think of it.
In other news, Py, the vocalist from Kadabrah’s ‘Black Magic’ is heading for big things. She has been recording new music in the Red Bull Studios and they filmed a quick Q&A session with her which you can catch here.
This week, we’re very excited to bring our all-new and revamped mix series. Kicking it off with the first edition is San Francisco DJ and producer Kozee. She has released music on labels such as Audio Doughnuts, Four40 Records, Hot N Heavy, Moveltraxx, Slit Jockey and Top Billin’ amongst others as well as remixing Submerse’s ‘Move On’ for us back in 2011. Her mix includes tracks from Funkystepz, Sepalcure, Jon Convex and many more so make sure you check it out underneath. Keep an eye on our Soundcloud for the second mix in the series too!
In other news, Sounds of Sumo bosses Kry Wolf have been busy this week. Their remix of Josef Salvat’s ‘Hustler’ was given away for free by Annie Mac and has been causing quite a stir!
They also returned to BBC Radio 1Xtra for their second show as part of the Food Music Daily Dose. Listen back to it here.
And finally, the Monki & Friends EP was released this week including work from plenty of Sounds of Sumo artists and friends. Mele collaborated with Salva, Shadow Child joined up with My Nu Leng and one of our newest additions to the family; Baxta also took part. Download the whole EP for free here.
Thanks for your support,
The SoS team.
It’s been relatively quiet this week, but we still have lots of great stuff for you to check out.
For starters, Sounds of Sumo favourites Mak & Pasteman were on Rinse FM last Monday, guesting on Shox‘s 11-2 slot. Have a listen back to the whole show here, where the duo provided a mix and interview.
Shox himself has released on SOS in the past, remixing Kingsin’s ‘War Den’ for us back in 2011! Check that out along with his lastest mix for Red Bull Studios below:
Now as it’s been such a quiet week, we thought we’d put the spotlight on some our extended family of artists and remixers who’ve helped make some of our great past releases what they are.
Kicking the round-up off is SOS veteran Murlo, who has remixed both Whole Sick’s ‘Voodoo’ and Py & Kadabrah’s ‘Black Magic’ for us in the past few years. He has a new track ‘Icebound’ and a new mix from his (almost) weekly Chateau FM series. Check them both out underneath:
In other news, Grenier who did this wicked rework of HxdB’s ‘Stylish Cadaver’ for us last year has also remixed Ambalance’s ‘Are You Around’. Both can be downloaded for free courtesy of XLR8R:
Cedaa, who remixed ‘Mami’ from the same EP, unveiled his rework of Kid Smpl’s ‘Star Ocean’ this week. Check both of the remixes underneath.
and finally, Man Recordings’ Daniel Haaksman has given away 10 of his remixes for free! How do you think they compare to his take on Kry Wolf’s ‘Black and Blue’?
Thanks for reading,
The SoS Team.
Paul Woolford is generally known for being one of the UK’s most innovative and original producers and has made a name for himself making house music, but around a year ago he launched Special Request, a new project that has given him license to draw inspiration from his youth when he spent a lot of time listening to pirate radio stations.
From unrelenting jungle and hardcore, to brooding techno and house, Woolford’s output under his new alias so far definitely encapsulates the raw and unconventional qualities of the music you can hear on pirate radio. With the previous three releases receiving plenty of praise, Woolford has now served up the fourth instalment, an EP consisting of two tracks that don’t have too much in common, but are both equally at home under the Special Request banner.
First up is ‘Vapour’, a creeper of a track that builds slowly from a beginning of deep and pensive chord stabs. Then the hollow kicks are brought in, transforming the techno construction into an unrelenting stomper, with Woolford putting some of the heaviest sub-bass you’ll have ever heard into effect.
The B-side goes in an entirely different direction, although it is more in keeping with the kind of tracks we’ve heard on the previous Special Request white-labels. Fittingly named ‘Mindwash’ (something you will come to understand once you’ve listened to the track), it definitely fits in with Woolford’s philosophy of emulating the feel of pirate radio. An Amen Break rhythm and arpeggiating synths are combined to excellent effect, and the track takes the shape of an acid-drenched hardcore number that only lets off for a brief interlude of etherial-sounding synth washes, before kicking back into full force.
As these are limited, vinyl only releases, it’s understandable that some of you may be put off (there are only 300 copies of this particular release going), but the sheer brilliance of Woolford’s Special Request releases so far should inspire you to think otherwise. With release number four possibly the best so far, even the most stubborn of you that live solely in the digital age will feel an urge to dust off your record player and grab yourselves a “12.

We’re celebrating this week as, for the first time ever, a Sounds of Sumo release has topped the Juno singles chart! SOS027: Kry Wolf‘s ‘Concrete EP’ has been one of the most successful SoS releases to date, so we’d like to say a massive thanks to everyone who’s supported it!
Kry Wolf were also in the guestmix for B.Traits this week on her last Monday morning show on BBC Radio 1. Don’t worry though, she will be covering Annie Mac’s prestigious Friday evening slot while Annie’s on maternity leave. We can’t think of a better replacement! Check out the Kry Wolf guestmix here.
Benton, who remixed ‘Bluffin’ from the Concrete EP also released his debut album ‘Reflections’ this week. He has kindly given away the track ’We’re Both Lost’ from the album for free. Grab it from XLR8R here.

Thanks for your support,
The SoS team.
Hello all! Been a while since I have done a post on here, so I thought I would take this opportunity to share the music of two friends that I have seen/bumped into in the last week. Both very different in style, but two hugely talented individuals.
Whether he’s head down, pen to paper and headphones on; or on the buttons in the studio and tweaking the beats, Walha is an artist that is really beginning to find his identity. Reigning from South London his experimental take on hip hop, grime and bass influenced sounds, give him a distinct and fresh style. I have heard some of his bits first hand, and there is a lot of stuff you won’t have heard yet, but will do soon. Singer, producer and rapper rolled into one, we eagerly await to see some of his forthcoming bits, here’s one he recently put up on SC, better to let his music do the talking… Oh and the good news is that he is spending more time in the studio!
Moya is a singer songwriter who has seen a meteoric rise in the past 12 months, from just a raw talent she as now progressed into an artist with huge potential. Currently based in South London, her talents were quickly picked up by the likes of Radio 2 with a whole host of gigs to follow; first in her hometown of Bournemouth, then across the UK. She has just come off a tour as support for no other than Mick Hucknall, and as she is about to embark on a stadium tour with Rod Stewart Moya is an artist that continues to blossom. Top girl and we wish her all the best here at SOS.
